Ride FAQs

Summit to Sound remains the DOPEST party on two wheels, blending mountain adventure with a Puget Sound finish line celebration. Below are answers to the most common questions riders ask about bikes, terrain, logistics, and what to expect on ride day.

HOW HARD IS IT?

On a scale from 1 (delightful) to 10 (brutal), Summit to Sound sits around a 7 — challenging enough to earn the finish but fun enough to enjoy the ride.

BIKE AND TIRE REQUIREMENTS

Summit to Sound includes a mix of surfaces: paved roads, packed gravel, and unpaved service roads.

Recommended setups include:

• Gravel bikes
• Cyclocross bikes
• Mountain bikes
• Road bikes with wider gravel tires

Recommended tire size

• Minimum: 35mm
• Ideal:
38–45mm

Rule of thumb: If your bike can comfortably handle a long gravel trail ride, it will work for Summit to Sound.

EVENT DAY LOGISTICS

Optional shuttle departs 8:00 AM sharp from Seacrest Park in Seattle and transports riders and bikes to the start at Hyak - the shuttle will not wait for late arrivals.

Ride Start: The ride begins at 9:30 AM from the Hyak Sno-Park parking lot.

SUPPORTED RIDE

Strategically placed stations along the route provide water, nutrition, and rider support throughout the day.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR NEW RIDERS

S2S is tailored for Intermediate to experienced cyclists, offering a challenging route that may not be suitable for beginners.

E-BIKES WELCOME

Embrace diversity with e-bike enthusiasts, as S2S welcomes riders with electric bicycles to participate in the event.

CARRY ESSENTIALS

While S2S is fully supported, anticipate remote sections where support may be delayed. Come prepared with water, snacks, and basic repair tools to self-manage minor issues and ensure a seamless ride.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN’T FINISH?

Riders who cannot complete the course will be assisted by support vehicles when possible. Because portions of the route are remote, pickup times may vary.
